A Guide to the ICC – License to Boat Abroad
The International Certificate of Competence for Operator of Pleasure Craft (ICC) is an internationally accepted licence. You’ll need it if you’re planning to go boating on international or coastal waters or to charter a boat in Europe.
Introduction to powerboating Level 1
Put simply we start at the beginning – it is assumed that all participants have no previous powerboat experience but are water confident and have a can-do attitude with regard to getting to grips with powerboating.
National powerboat certificate: level 2
This course covers all you need to know to safely operate a powerboat. It is suitable for those who want to brush up on previous experience or for those wanting to learn the correct and safe way to handle a powerboat. This course revises all the material from the introductory course however, previous powerboating experience is required.

Coastal navigation for small boats
A short theory course ideal for powerboaters, the course is certified by Irish Sailing and will teach you all the fundamental navigational skills needed to safely operate a powerboat on longer trips away from base.
This course satisfies the navigation and theory pre-requisites for the Irish Sailing Intermediate Powerboat Certificate and Irish Sailing Advanced Powerboat Certificate.
intermediate powerboat course
We’ll teach you how to plan enjoyable coastal passages including developing navigation, pilotage and boat handling skills. At the end of the course, you’ll receive the Irish Sailing Intermediate Powerboat Certificate.
Advanced powerboat course
The Advanced Powerboat Course will allow powerboaters to gain skills in boat handling, seamanship, pilotage and navigation, at both day and night in coastal waters. Some pre-course preparation maybe needed depending on your experience.

This course is designed for those seeking to improve their competency in the sport and focuses upon areas such as escorting racing fleets of dinghies, windsurfers and canoes; providing safety and rescue cover for training fleets and assisting in race management duties.
RYA Powerboat courses
In addition to being an Irish Sailing training centre we’re also Royal Yachting Association Accredited. We run the full RYA Powerboat Training scheme and would be delighted to set up a set of course dates to suit your needs.
ICC Powerboat Direct Assessment
We are delighted to be an ICC test centre, and offer the training required to meet the standard. Full details about the ICC can be viewed in a short guide we’ve prepared explaining the qualification and what you can do with it.
