Day Skipper Theory
Day Skipper Theory provides a comprehensive introduction to chartwork, navigation, meteorology and the basics of seamanship.
The RYA Day Skipper Theory Course can be undertaken in the classroom or online. Classroom Courses take place on Tuesday evenings from 6.30 to 10pm.

2026 Classroom Course Dates
Course 2: September to November
- Tuesdays from 6.30pm-10pm
September – 15th, 22nd, 29th
October – 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th
November – 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th
Exam: Saturday 28th November from 9.30am-4pm

Seamanship, coastal navigation and pilotage, chartwork, electronic charts, position fixing, plotting a course to steer, weather forecasting and meteorology, tides, collision regulations.
